The Story
So this look came to life with a group project for an entirely different class, where I needed to perform as an old OG Austinite. I chose Willie Nelson as my inspiration for this character.
We had about an hour to film a short scene, and I had an exceptionally limited time in which to do my makeup. The result was a hasty, but successful old age/masc makeup with a painted on beard that made for a heartfelt and hilarious character.
For added realness, I let my natural facial hair grow out and brushed mascara under the hairs, opposite the grain.

After this makeup process, I was inspired to take the old age/masc transformation a step further and try my hand at beard laying. I ended up not having the time I thought I would, as prepping the beard lay took a good hour for a beginner like myself, so the end result is without hair or costuming.
The Makeup

I started this look by creating the beard, using what I have from my kit: some crepe wool, spirit gum, a styling comb, my flat iron, and a pair of scissors.
I started by laying out the shape of the beard I wanted to create with a light brown pencil, then began laying the beard from the bottom of my face up, finishing with the mustache.
I ended up with a way thicker beard than anticipated, but decided to just go with it. I gave her a good trim and then started in on the makeup.

I used my basic theatrical makeup kit to combine old age techniques with the masc makeup to create a unique character. I started by laying down my hard shadows, making sure to create a dip in the cheek where older skin sags. I did the same with the hard highlights, then blended these out to the effect I wanted. After this, I went back and added the wrinkle details with a similar shading method on a smaller scale, remembering to powder between steps.
Once this was done, I brushed a bit of Snow White hair color into my brows and beard for the final touch.
