These Shining Lives by Melanie Marnich

Presented by Mary Moody Northen Theatre Fall 2022

These Shining Lives by Melanie Marnich portrays a capable group of women
robbed of their time through radium poisoning at the hands of their employers, the Radium Dial Company. The director wanted to create as much light
as possible at the top of the play in order to give the audience sufficient emotional
space for the density of the second act. As associate costume designer for this
AEA production, it was my job to give the characters of Frances, Tom, Doctor
Rowntree, Company Doctor, and Dr. Dalitch the appropriate visual balance as
the story progressed. Working with lead costume designer Susan Branch Towne,
we combined purchased and pulled pieces with custom builds to create unique
period garments.
